Margeurite Casey Foundation
Agency/Program Overview
Marguerite Casey Foundation is an independent, private foundation dedicated to helping low-wealth families strengthen their voice and mobilize their communities to make changes toward a more just and equitable society. Its grantmaking aims to engage low-income parents in efforts to improve conditions for their families, connect organizations within regions and disciplines, and enhance the capacity and effectiveness of cornerstone organizations in low-income communities.
Specific Research Question
What are the characteristics of leadership development efforts that we fund and what impact have they had on community participants? Are there differences between grantmaking regions? What are the implications for progress towards our goal of helping low-income families strengthen their voice and mobilize their communities?
Additional Project Background
Marguerite Casey Foundation makes grants in five regions (encompassing 12 states) within the United States. This project would involve examining the leadership development efforts that we fund in these regions.
Key Steps
The student will scan the literature regarding leadership development and social change. He/she will examine our file information on the leadership development efforts that we fund and then survey a set of grantees regarding these efforts. He/she will analyze the results in light of the foundation’s mission and goals.
